Center talent show to have male and female first prizes
The Lesbian-Gay Community Services Center of Greater Cleveland will sponsor its second annual Talent Show, on Saturday, November 21. This year the show is called Center Stage II.
Center special events fundraising chair Nick Palumbo recently announced that many changes had been made for this year's event. "Last year's show was a huge success for this community--bringing lesbians and gay men together in a special way--and this year's Center Stage II will be even better," Palumbo said.
Changes were made to the show to reflect both the Center's purpose in sponsoring this event and the community at large. "This is a fund-raiser for the Center," said Palumbo, "so we evaluated both our fundraising potential, and what would help us build bridges in our community." According to Brynna Fish, hired by the Center to produce Center Stage II, this year's event shows the commitment the Center has to ensure its existence by raising money, and to embrace the total community through a production of broad appeal.
This year's show will again have a talent contest with prize winners in the following
IG LA
categories: First Prize-Best of Show Female Act $300, First Prize-Best of Show Male Act $300, and a male and a female runner-up, each receiving $150. Last year's show awarded a first, second, and third prize with no categories.
Emcees for this year's show will be Center program director Aubrey Wertheim, (remember those pom-poms?) and a surprise nationally known female personality to be announced next month.
Local talent can audition for Center Stage II on Sunday, September 20 or 27. For an audition call 522-1999 for times, location and audition guidelines.
Volunteers are needed to work on the Center Stage production, program book, tickets, publicity, volunteer recruitment and the party following the show. Call the Center at 522-1999 to volunteer.
Tickets for Center Stage II, to be held at the Civic in Cleveland Heights, are $15 in advance and $17 at the door and will go on sale October 1.
Center Stage II is being produced by Bluefish Productions and in cooperation with the Gay People's Chronicle.
